Associate, Communications Desk

Brian Mutua is a dedicated Architecture student at the University of Nairobi (BArch), with strong academic interests in sustainability, spatial justice, and climate-conscious design. His work explores how the built environment can support equitable, resilient cities across East Africa.

He co-authored a contribution to TU Delft’s Manifesto of the Just City, collaborating with international students to examine spatial justice issues in urban contexts. He later participated in an Erasmus+ exchange focused on sustainability, where he co-developed a research paper addressing environmental challenges through cross-cultural perspectives. Currently, Brian is investigating high-density housing solutions for the urban poor, aiming to understand how design can respond to both social and environmental concerns in rapidly growing cities.

His involvement in Model United Nations has strengthened his understanding of policy dynamics and international cooperation, reinforcing his commitment to architecture as a tool for social impact. Outside the classroom, Brian runs TheCraftGallery, a small craft business that reflects his creative sensibilities. He is also an active volunteer, passionate about community development, and enjoys football, reading, and the arts in his free time.
