Preta Namasaba is a writer and lawyer holding a bachelor’s in Law (LLB) from Makerere University. She has received a certification from the Thomson Foundation in ‘African Stories: A Guide For Journalists On How To Tell Better Stories About Africa’ and graduated from Advocacy Accelerator’s Challenging Patriarchy program. She is currently pursuing a post graduate diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre.
Preta specialises in the intersection of law, politics, economics, and gender. She is a 2021 African Liberty Fellow and a 2022 Lead(H)er Fellow. Previously, Preta worked as a Staff Writer for Black Stars Online, where she researched and wrote about the African diaspora, business, innovation, and wealth. Her work has been featured in prominent publications such as The Daily Monitor, The New Vision, Qiraat Africa, and The Rational Standard.
As a volunteer with the Africa End Sexual Harassment Initiative (AESHI), Preta played a key role in organising the first regional conference on sexual harassment and the law in Africa. She served as the Director of Publicity for the Makerere Debating Union and was an Associate Editor of the Makerere Law Journal. Preta identifies as a feminist and is passionate about women's sports. She is also a published poet.
