Stefan Waigwa

Associate, Climate & Energy Desk

Stefan Waigwa is a driven researcher and sustainability professional holding a degree in Biosystems Engineering (BSc) from the University of Nairobi. His academic training equipped him with a solid foundation in sustainable technologies, energy systems, and environmental modelling.

Stefan contributed to Africa’s clean energy narrative through his role with the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), under the Africa Wind Power initiative, where he supported research, policy tracking, and strategic communications on renewable energy development across Sub-Saharan Africa. He played a central role in developing the report ‘Wind Energy Prospects for Sustainable Agriculture in Africa’ in collaboration with Student Energy, exploring the intersection of wind power and climate-smart agriculture to support smallholder farming systems.

With a background combining technical knowledge and policy insight, Stefan continues to engage with regional stakeholders through clean energy dialogues and capacity-building projects. Beyond his professional life, he participated in the Round Square community service programme, helping construct classrooms from the ground up at Ibisil School, Kajiado. He enjoys playing in community basketball leagues and actively follows regional developments in climate finance, green industrialisation, and the scaling of off-grid energy solutions that are reshaping East Africa’s sustainability landscape.
