Sydney Nassanga
Associate, Climate & Energy Desk
Sydney Nassanga is a passionate and driven geoscientist with a degree in Petroleum Geoscience and Production (BSc) from Makerere University, graduating with recognition on the Dean’s List.
Sydney is currently involved with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) organisation, serving in the Integrated Reservoir Management Technical section and the Ugandan section. In this capacity, she contributes to capacity-building, technical engagement, and regional energy dialogue. Her exposure to energy systems in East Africa continues to deepen through these collaborative and leadership roles. With a strong grounding in subsurface geology, hydrocarbon systems and operations management, Sydney’s academic background and professional experience intersects directly with the priorities of the Climate & Energy Desk at JEPA.
Born and raised in Uganda, she maintains a keen interest in how regional energy policies, resource geopolitics and energy innovation shape East Africa’s development landscape. Outside of academics and professional commitments, she is passionate about social leadership and regularly engages in student-led mentorship initiatives focused on youth empowerment in STEM fields.
